Most healthcare providers (88 percent) have made or are planning to make investments in remote patient monitoring technology to better manage chronically ill patients’ care, according to a survey conducted by Spyglass Consulting Group.
For its Trends in Remote Patient Monitoring 2019 report, Spyglass conducted 100 telephone interviews about telemedicine during a three-month period starting in April with clinical informatics and health IT thought leaders. Participants were affiliated with community hospitals, ambulatory environments, integrated delivery networks, home health agencies and government organizations.
Three survey insights:
1. RPM technologies are being used to monitor chronically ill patients; more than 45 percent of the U.S. population has at least one chronic disease.
2. Eighty-eight percent of providers have invested or are considering investing in RPM technologies to support chronically ill patients who are high-risk for hospital readmission.
3. Eighty-nine percent of providers are implementing mobile technologies, EHR-based patient portals, telehealth video conferencing services and wearable technology to increase engagement with chronically ill patients.
